The dynamics of group initiatives : Community

A former Royal Marine Commando, Bruce has become a household name through his three BBC series about indigenous peoples, called Tribe, which has been shown in over thirty countries. More recently, his 8-month journey and hard-hitting six part series about the Amazon was an instant success with over 3 million viewers. Bruce's career with the BBC started when he took a friend and a camera off to New Guinea Island to climb a little known mountain in order to escape the expected anti-climax of the millennium celebrations. The subsequent documentary won awards around the world and was bought by the BBC One series 'Extreme Lives'. In October 2008, Bruce promoted both the Amazon series and the Amazon book to phenomenal acclaim alongside a fundraising album that he put together for Survival International (Bruce Parry presents Amazon Tribe: Songs for Survival).

Making the change!

Hello! I have love watching Bruce over the pass few years on the BBC. I am also a supporter of Survival International and have been for over 10 years now! I found out about Survival when I read On foot through Africa by Ffyona Campbell. I was so inspired by this lady. That when I went to traveled  Australia. I wanted to bike from Sydney to Perth and raise money for Survival. Well we did raise some money not a great deal but some. And had pamphlets and info on Survival to give out in Sydney. Which we gave out in internet cafe's people on the street.  This was 1999. I think this 999 is a great movement and love to be part of it. About a month ago I have started to not go to the nearest supermarket for my weekly shop and buy local. And have had a much more enjoyable time doing so. I like photography. So I have had permission to be taking pictures of the places I go the people I meet the farmers and people who work at these places. So I'm getting ready to start a blog about it. As I am so passionate about how an every day person like me can make a difference. I do have to live within my means but have already found that buying local is more economical, taste better, good for the environment and much more fun!. I live in Suffolk and am excited as Jimmy's farm is going to have a 2 day festival, there will be famous chef's music fun all about local food. O.k so not everything is organic but buying local is a start. I hope to get an allotment ready for next year. I eat meat but I feel much better when I know the animals have been kept well and have not been transported great distance to then be on my plate.  I hope to live the good life! And be the change! And as I do learn more and get better at Photography and hope for it to be my living I shall only Photograph things that are for a better world!  Peace and Love Suzanne
